Day 14 - 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Day 14 - James 4:4-5

SCRIPTURE:
4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
LESSON:
Let me tell you a story from my time as a young college student. One summer I was travelling in a public relations group for the college. We were at a youth camp recruiting students. I was enjoying the attention that I was getting from the young ladies at the camp. But I was also dating my future wife, Tamela. We were pretty serious and had even started talking about marriage! During that week Tamela travelled cross-country to see me and spent the second half of the week at the camp. To make a long story short, she saw me wink at another young lady during an afterglow one night. Innocent to be sure but foolhardy to say the least! An intense conversation followed by a stiff ultimatum ended with a sincere apology and a lot of begging on my part! Thankfully Tamela forgave me and eventually married me! And the rest is history!

Tamela didn’t want me even flirting with other girls! I was either with her or I was with someone else. I had to make a decision. There was no middle ground. The same thing has been true in our marriage! Faithfulness is paramount! Marriage is two people becoming one. Everything joining together for mutual goals and purposes. When that unity is broken through infidelity and unfaithfulness the results are catastrophic for the relationship.

When James describes these believers as adulterers and adulteresses he is actually saying that they are being unfaithful to God. When you or I long for the world and flirt with it we are being unfaithful to God. When we wink at sin and play along with the world’s games we are being unfaithful in our hearts to God. James tells us that God’s Spirit yearns jealously for us. In the words of Jesus, “you cannot serve two masters.” Either you love God or you love the world. Which one is it going to be?
PRAYER:
Father, help me to love you with all my heart. Let my desire be for more of you and not for the world. Thank you God for always being faithful to me even when I have failed you. I love you. Amen!

No one, you said it very clearly nursery.2 paths to follow love for God or love for this world.Paul even tells us ingulations.Chapter five that do not fulfill the loss of the flesh For they are at war with one another. So the question becomes, are we gonna be faithful to God or faithful to the world? I pray that I as well as all believers, will be faithful to God.
